          To My Son

          Chuck Minor (Chase's Daddy)

          Working hard every day

deadlines to make, bills to pay

getting up, to work I go

what I miss I'll never know

Comming home, I see your smile

feeling of relieve at least for awhile

I now know why I do what I do

cause its great to come home to you

to kiss your cheek touch your skin

to put you to bed, to tuck you in

and for you my darling son

I'd give my life or I'd take one

because the greatest Job I've ever had

is the job of being your Dad!

          TO MY GROWN-UP SON

          Alice E. Chase

My hands were busy through the day.

I didn't have much time to play

The little games you asked me to.

I didn't have much time for you.

I'd wash your clothes, I'd sew and cook,

But when you'd bring your picture book

And ask me please to share your fun,

I'd say: "A little later, son."

I'd tuck you in all safe at night

And hear your prayers, turn out the light,

Then tiptoe softly to the door...

          I wish I'd stayed a minute more.

For life is short, the years rush past

A little boy grows up so fast.

No longer is he at your side,

          His precious secrets to confide.

The picture books are put away,

There are no longer games to play,

No goodnight kiss, no prayer to hear...

          That all belongs to yesteryear.

My hands, once busy, now are still.

The days are long and hard to fill.

I wish I could go back and do

The little things you asked me to.

          Oh my baby is walking

A tear in my eye is forming

I hope I get to meet him

          Before he's all grown up!!!

          What I Did Today

Today I left some dirty dishes dirty,

          The bed made around 3:30

The diapers soaked a little longer,

The odor grew a little stronger.

The crumbs I spilled the day before,

Are staring at me from the floor.

The finger prints there on the wall,

Will likely be there still next fall.

The dirty streaks on the window panes,

Will still be there next time it rains.

Shame on you, you sit and say...

Just what did you do today?

I nursed a baby till he slept,

I held a toddler while he wept,

I played a game of hide and seek,

Squeezed a toy so it would squeek,

          I pulled a wagon, sang a song,

Taught a child right from wrong.

What did I do this whole day through?

Not much that shows I guess that's true.

Unless you think that what I've done,

          Might be important to someone...

With bright green eyes, and soft blonde hair,

If that is true...I've done my share.
